🛠️ What I Fix (and How I Work)
👍 I handle all heating problems quickly and specialise in diagnosing and repairing electronic faults—which make up over 90% of issues in modern heaters built after 2009.

- Electronic faults, parts and components in heaters
- Electrical faults, parts and components in heaters
- Zoning and Controls in add-on refrigerated Heating
- Motor, Damper, Mechanical parts in Heaters
- Error codes (e.g., Brivis error code 7, Braemar fault 7)
- Old system making weird noises or failing at 10pm?
- Cost too much to run or air blowing much less than before
- Struggling to pull temperature up over 20C during wet windy cold blasting days?
- Heater won’t start or keeps shutting off
- Cold air blowing instead of heat
- Tripped circuits or blown fuses
🔧 How I check your heaters:
✔️ While I am there:
- I don’t just say what’s wrong—I show you.
- I don’t use jargon or hide behind “service & clean” excuses.
- I’ll walk you through what actually failed, and why.
✔️ What to Tell Me When You Call:
So I can solve your problem fast, please tell me:
- What brand/model is your heater? (Brivis, Braemar, Bonaire, etc.)
- What error code or fault are you seeing? (Flashing lights, beeps, or blank screen?)
- What have you tried already? (Reset, replaced batteries, checked power?)
- When did it start acting up? (Sudden or getting worse over time?)
- Is anyone else’s work involved? (Has another plumber or sparkie looked at it?)
✔️ How I Work:
- You get an honest, upfront quote before I start.
- I diagnose, repair, and test the heater—not just swap parts and hope for the best.
- All work is insured, and you get real invoices—no “cash only” deals that vanish when you need a warranty.
🚫 No cash-in-hand cowboys—just proper work with proper paperwork, so you’re covered and your system’s safe.
🚫 No upsells, ever. If your heater is fixable, I fix it. If not, I tell you why.

🤝 My Promise:
I fix what’s broken, show you what’s done, and leave your heater running safely.

💬 Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What signs show your heater needs repair?
A: Cold air, strange noises, error codes, less efficient, can’t reach temperature set point, short cycling, burnt, smelly, or frequent shutdowns all signal it’s time to call a professional.
💰 About Call-Out Fees
I charge an affordable diagnostic fee — covering travels, onsite diagnosis, and often even a small part is included.
Q: How much does heater repair cost in Melbourne?
A: Most repair jobs fall between $70–$299 + Part (Feb-2024), depending on the issue. We always offer upfront advice and free quotes before starting any work. Pricewise: Our OEM parts often supplied cheaper than do-it-yourself.
Often, our total cost is comparable to DIY, but licensed, legal, and insured.

A: Many heating problems are caused by electronic malfunctions. Our expertise ensures we can fix both mechanical and electronic issues, providing a more comprehensive repair.
Q: Do you offer warranties on your repairs?
A: Yes, we offer warranties on both parts and labour for your peace of mind.
Q: Do you offer emergency heater repairs?
A: Yes, we understand the urgency of a broken heater and offer emergency repairs whenever possible.
Q: How often should I service my heater?
A: We recommend servicing one every two years after the 3rd year since the system was installed, to keep your heater running efficiently and prevent breakdowns.

🛠️ The technical details for Researchers:
(The details below are for those curious minds who like to dig a little deeper. The realities of how things work don’t change—no matter who explains them, as long as it’s from real experience.)

🛡️ Carbon Monoxide (CO) Safety: What You Need to Know
Modern gas ducted heaters are controlled by electronic modules, the circuit of combustion fan motor combine with air pressure safety sensors to prevent carbon monoxide (CO) leaks, are common in modern designs. But for extra peace of mind, I recommend installing a couple of the CO alarms (around $30 at Bunnings).
These alarms are designed for “Do-it-yourself”: A small investment that adds early warning to provide extra protection for your home. Or you can ask me to install it for a small fee.
- 🛠️ I offer installation to ensure recommended correct placement.
- 🔋 Optional: battery changes & maintenance
🚨Why Modern Heater Repair Isn’t a Job for a Generalist
The heart of a modern heater is no longer just a flame, but a complex electronic control system.
✔️ Not just only a plumber’s job:
The complexity of modern electronic controlling systems on heaters requires more than just hard labour skills. Although gas is part of the system, in modern heaters it’s largely the electrical and the electronic control boards, sensors, and safety circuits that often cause faults. That’s why you need a technician with electrical training and the right diagnostic tools. Experience matters—but true expertise is what saves you time, money, and repeat breakdowns.
Today, gas valves are non-serviceable, meaning they can no longer be manually dismantled and reassembled for maintenance; they are only replaceable. After replacement, a gas fitter or plumber will use a Manometer to check and readjust the gas pressure, but this is only one part of the job.
A modern gas valve cycles around 120,000 times (on-off) before it requires attention. You’ve seen it yourself: heaters that are 30 years old still operating properly. Once the heater is in place, virtually only the electronics are taking over. Even when not in use during summer, the gas valve is constantly sensed by the central electronic controller to make sure it stays off. This is unlike old heaters where the (standing) pilot light stayed on all summer. The modern gas valve makes a flame only when you call for heat.
The electronic circuit that monitors the gas valve is “live” and connected to a 240VAC power supply capable of delivering more than 10 amperes—many times over the danger level that can cause death from electrical shock. “Tingling” with this control circuit for live-fault-finding is an extremely difficult task. It requires:
- Hands-on experience in this specific area—both on-site and in the workshop.
- Skilled and certified in on-site electronic fault finding.
- Fully equipped with properly calibrated testing gear.
- Adequately insured, coverage applies to all tasks within the scope of work. Personal experience matters, but it doesn’t replace proper qualifications when dealing with complex, live electrical fault-finding.
✔️ The Misleading Simplicity of “It Just Needs a Clean”
common response to a faulty heater is that the burners are dirty. While cleaning is a part of maintenance, it often fails to fix the root cause, leading to frustrating repeat problems.
You’ll find plenty of videos showing tradies blasting high-pressure air through the manifold and venturi to clear debris. While this can help—especially when the flame isn’t a consistent blue or fails to carry across to the last venturi that has the flame sensor—issues in modern heaters are more often linked to electronics, sensors, wiring, control circuits, and similar components.
The flame sensor rod should only be removed for cleaning after confirming, through precise electronic measurements, that cleaning is actually necessary. Even removing just the flame sensor—without proper disconnection and static discharge neutralisation—can lead to unexpected faults, such as broken wires or unintended discharge, potentially damaging the main control module PCB beyond repair.
I have so often seen a “service” and cleaning fail to fix the root cause. For example:
- The famous error 7 flash on a Brivis ducted heater.
- A fault 7 on a Braemar unit.
- A Bonaire Rhino MB5 that works for only 5 minutes then turns off (while the fan stays on).
- Braemar error 34 is often not related to the gas valve, and FC4 — a thermistor fault — is often mistaken for a ductwork issue.
All these—and many other error codes—are not gas valve or burner problems. They’re electronic faults that most tradies aren’t equipped or qualified to handle. Often, the error code points to one thing, but the real cause lies elsewhere, and finding it takes proper diagnostic tools and real hands-on experience.
Fix2QIK knows how to track down and fix these issues properly—saving you time, money, and stress for the things that matter more.
